In 2008, brothers Clifton, James, and Jalin Phelps bravely took the first step in their journey toward success, establishing JCP Construction, LLC as a small construction firm, operating out of their parents’ home. This year, in 2024, JCP Construction is celebrating its 15th anniversary, in a central office it acquired and renovated, boasting a vast portfolio of contributions to some of Wisconsin’s most recognizable projects.

From the start, JCP Construction has been committed to delivering quality projects on time and within budget—a brand promise that has become synonymous with the company’s reputation. The brothers have strong blue-collar ties and grew up learning valuable lessons about hard work and commitment. These values, taught by their parents (James and Lynette Phelps) are ingrained in the culture at JCP Construction and have served as the foundation of its innovation and entrepreneurship.

Also instrumental in the company’s success has been clients’ direct access to JCP Construction’s ownership team. The brothers operate with a hands-on approach to projects, providing accountability and building trust with developers, while concurrently ensuring construction quality, customer satisfaction, and efficient decision making.

Throughout its expansion, JCP Construction has always felt passionately about contributing to community growth and development. By reinvesting in the business itself and in the neighborhoods in which it works, the firm has become a beacon of hope and confidence.

JCP Construction’s tremendous local impact has been facilitated by a workforce that is reflective of the diverse and hardworking communities it serves. With a desire to discover and develop great talent, the Phelps brothers have found it rewarding to mentor and build upcoming leaders in the industry. Says Jalin Phelps, “It is truly our people who set us apart.”

Along the way, the Phelps brothers have certainly encountered—and overcome—challenges to the firm’s growth. For instance, as a new company, and one of color, JCP Construction initially struggled with access to capital. The firm has also worked to knock down barriers it has faced in the industry.

Today, the company offers deep experience in pre-construction, general contracting, and construction management, allowing it to contribute to a wide range of projects. Coupled with its expertise in self-performing selective demolition, cast-in-place concrete, and rough and finish carpentry, JCP Construction sets itself apart in the industry. The firm is proud to have contributed to projects such as the Fiserv Forum, Summerfest grounds, ThriveOn King, Northwestern Mutual headquarters, Bader Philanthropies and Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy.

As JCP Construction celebrates 15 years of remarkable milestones, trust and integrity will continue to stand as foundational to the business. The company is excited to expand its geographic reach and, more importantly, deepen its connections with other area businesses and develop additional solid partnerships, for the years to come.
