Clifton Phelps was recently featured on the WisBusiness podcast.

He discussed some of the company’s current projects, including the Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy in the Bronzeville neighborhood and the ThriveOn King development, which he calls a “beacon” for the community.

“It’s a project that allows these great organizations and nonprofits to intermingle here in the community, as well as the surrounding areas of Harambee, Halyard Park and Brewers Hill,” he said. “It kind of brings a melting pot.”

In a return to the Deer District downtown, the company is also going to be working on a new Frank Productions concert venue, “which we’re very happy about,” Phelps said.

The podcast also explores broader trends in the construction industry including how interest rates are influencing development plans, projects from architects and engineers in the pipeline, as well as potential opportunities.

“We’re involved a lot in health care … so we’re just kind of keeping track of the merger from Advocate Aurora and Atrium, to kind of see what that new brand looks like so that we could be a part of that transformation there,” he said.

Phelps also weighs in on the future of JCP Construction, noting the company doubled in size last year.

“We see ourselves growing … continue to grow and continue to hire,” he said. “Obviously looking for better opportunities to gain our traction here.”

JCP Construction to seek broader impact after Howard Fuller academy project

Howard Fuller Academy

JCP Construction was recently featured in the Milwaukee Business Journal discussing the Howard Fuller academy project.

JCP Construction recently completed its first ground-up school construction with the new Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy high school building, the most recent of what has been a strong portfolio of north side Milwaukee projects for the company.

The Milwaukee-construction firm’s other developments include the ThriveOn project and the FPC Live facility.

“It’s a sense of pride to be able to add to the fabric of the area,” JCP president James Phelps Jr. told the Milwaukee Business Journal. “Just to have a part in building those projects, it’s just an honor to be a part of that renaissance of sorts.”

For Phelps, he was “ecstatic” with how the building turned out and sees the future facility being a staple in the community. The building’s completion had even more meaning to Phelps as a person who had connected with Dr. Fuller at a young age.

Phelps recalls his amazement at meeting Dr. Fuller as a kid attending Milwaukee Tech, where Fuller served as superintendent.

“Being part of the team to build a new facility that bears his name, it’s quite the honor,” Phelps said.
